BIO

Hello! I’m Katherine Sainte-Marie. I am a highly driven screenwriter and genre filmmaker whose work has been featured in over sixty festivals across ten countries. Festival highlights include: Nantucket Film Festival (where I won Showtime’s Tony Cox Award for a gothic-horror script), Sonoma International, Horrible Imaginings, Chicago Horror, Spook Screen Ireland, and the Catalina Film Festival (where my latest folk-horror short was nominated for a Wes Craven Award). Much of my early work is centered on creating original folk tales and adaptations of fairy tales, often interweaving classic stories with social issues such as self-harm, addiction, and mental illness. Presently my work is informed by my passion for deaf culture. As a SODA (sibling of a deaf adult), I am focused on developing genre screenplays and films for deaf actors in leading roles. My main objectives are authentic deaf representation on screen and championing deaf talent.

Some facts about me:

I have been acting for over 10 years and am trained in Michael Chekhov Technique and the Meisner Technique.

I majored in film and tv production and presently work in post-production for Educational Television.

I am a fan of the gothic horror genre and novelist Anne Rice. So much so that when I lived in New Orleans I used to stroll by her former mansion on Prytania Street, often with a piece of Napolean bar cake in hand from the local market. On these walks, I’d come up with ideas for gothic horror stories.

My projects are primarily focused in the genres of historical fiction, fantasy, and horror and can be seen on Film Shortage, Shorted Films, and the Discover.Film platform in the United Kingdom.
