BIO

Hello! I’m Katherine Sainte Marie. I am a highly driven screenwriter and genre filmmaker whose work has been featured in over sixty festivals across ten countries. Festival highlights include: Nantucket Film Festival (where I won Showtime’s Tony Cox Award for a gothic-horror script), Sonoma International, Horrible Imaginings, Chicago Horror, Spook Screen Ireland, and the Catalina Film Festival (where my latest folk-horror short was nominated for a Wes Craven Award). Much of my early work is centered on creating original folk tales and adaptations of fairy tales, often interweaving classic stories with social issues such as self-harm, addiction, and mental illness. Presently my work is informed by my passion for deaf culture. As a SODA (sibling of a deaf adult), I am focused on developing genre screenplays and films for deaf actors in leading roles. My main objectives are authentic deaf representation on screen and championing deaf talent.

My projects are primarily focused in the genres of historical fiction, fantasy, and horror and can be seen on Film Shortage, Shorted Films, and Youtube in the U.S. and on the Discover.Film platform in the U.K.
